Upheaval just two months out from first race
Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene has paid the price for the Italian team’s world championship drought, with the 61-year-old sacked as team principal just eleven weeks out from the start of the new season.
“After four years of untiring commitment and dedication Maurizio Arrivabene is leaving the team,” Ferrari said in a statement.
“Ferrari would like to thank Maurizio for his valuable contribution to the team’s increasing competitiveness over the past few years and wish him the best for his future endeavours.
“With immediate effect Mattia Binotto will take over as Scuderia Ferrari’s team principal.”
Binotto joined Ferrari in 1995, and has been chief technical officer since 2016, a period that has seen an upswing in the fortunes of the Italian team.
